Facilitate the Ratification of the Maputo Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa

Duration: 2013 - ongoing, proposed time-frame until ratification: May 2014

Area of implementation: Freetown

Supported by: WILDAF, IPAS, UNWomen

Overall Objective: The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol) will be ratified by parliament.

 

Facilitating the Development and Enactment of the Enactment of the Gender Eqaulity and Women's Empowerment Bill

Area of implementation: Nationwide
Duration: 2013 - ongoing, proposed timeline until enactment: International Women's Day 2015
Supported by : UNDP, Plan, other funders requested
Overall Objective: : A women empowerment bill that addresses the major hurdles for the full enjoyment of women’s rights in Sierra Leone will be enacted in parliament. The law will grant women a 30% quota in all political positions, ban child FGM and grant further affirmative action.
