ORGANIZATION PROFILE
 

AMNet is an acronym used in place of “Advocacy Movement Network”. This is a charity non-governmental organization (NGO) that is registered with the Sierra Leone Government with Headquarters in Freetown.

The organization was founded by Ms. Hawa Samai. Ms. Hawa Samai is a Sierra Leonean with professional background in Business Administration. Over the years, she has been giving educational support to children from poor families especially girls and training the mothers of these children with entrepreneurial skills and a business start-up capital as livelihood sustenance for their families. This was done to help promote Women Empowerment, the Rights of a Child and Community Development.

AMNet started in January 2004 and was registered as an NGO on the 20th January 2006, with an administrative Board of Directors.

AMNet was created to bring positive changes to the entire country through Advocacy, Capacity Building, Empowerment and Gender Equality and Parity.

We also work with community organizations to develop people’s based initiatives to effect positive changes, engender societies to attain equitable development at the micro and national level.

AMNet’s strength is in the people. We combine poor peoples experience with the expertise of our staff to proffer solutions. We work with networks of poor people’s organization and in partnership with like-minded institutions to promote the right of people especially the women and children.

AMNet has a working partnership relationship with CBO’s, NGO’s, INGO’s, UN Agencies and Government Line Ministries.

AMNet is a member of numerous networks and coalitions advocating for the rights of women and children. Like:- ECOWAS Gender Development Centre (EGDC), National Movement for Emancipation and Progress (NaMEP), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), Civil Society Action Group, NGO’s Life Skills Working Group, Education for All (EFA/SL),  etc…

OPERATIONAL AREAS
AMNet operates in five (5) districts i.e. Koinadugu, Kono, Kambia, Kailahun and Freetown as its headquarters.

Plans are underway to extend operations in Tonkolili, Bombali, Bo, Kenema and Moyamba.

CONCLUSION
In the bid to forestall a peaceful co-existence in the four thematic areas, AMNet has however condition its priority areas by making sure that most of the issues are being properly addressed in the form of Advocacy, Capacity Building, Empowerment and Security i.e. Children Interim Care Centre, and a host of other life skills training programmes.
